About 100 youths attend conference at Lansing Center..He walked into a room full of teenagers. He performed a monologue about a man addicted to heroin. He performed a monologue from Shakespeare's Juluis Caesar. He did it for a reason.
Robinson's 2 hour presentation Friday was a part of the 6th annual Teen Conference sponsored by the local Neighborhood Youth and parent Prevention Partnership.
Robinson was the free conference's keynote speaker.
Robinson's presentation set the tone for the conference with continued with workshops on stress, relationships and intimacy, self-esteem and substance abuse.
After the workshops, kids had dinner and a 3 hour entertainment period.
The confernece drew about 300 teens last year, and the planning committe hoped to exceed that number this year.
The teens hung banners, visited high Shools and called radio stations to get the word out around the Lansing area.

All of us were impressed by your program. Holding the attention of 150 pre-adolescents on any topic is no mean feat. You not only held the boys attention, however; it is not an exaggeration to say that they were riveted to your every word. Your combination of honesty, dramatics, street smarts, personal experience, intelligence, and vulnerability was exactly the right touch. You have a special way of relating to kids that is rare among people who do not teach. You engaged the boys' minds and hearts simultaneously..... Your metaphor of self as a ship that needs to be captained by self-esteem and discipline was very apt for the boys. Scot, I hope that your very important work on behalf of children continues to be as powerful for other schools as it has been for collegiate.

Your presentation of Vision Warrior for our WBAI listening audience was, to say the very least, a success. We knew that it would be dramatic. What we were not prepared for was so many people becoming involved, with their own lives, the lives of friends and relatives, and the recognition that they had been with-holding such strong feelings. It became like a town meeting, one with a healing component. It was a rare, invigorating and important experience for our audience. There is no greater tribute to your presentation that we can say...other than we hope that we can repeat this experience.

We would like to extend our appreciation for the outstanding presentation that you gave our students most recently. Students are still talking about how well they related to the themes that you presented. Your remarkable acting skills chronicling your life from substance abuser to your present day success left an indelible impression upon them. We wish you much success and hope that you'll visit us in the near future. Thank you.

I would like to thank you for taking the time to speak to the students at Syosset High School. The assembly was very well received by the students, parents, and faculty members. One student commented that even his friends who are drug users took your story to heart. He also thought it was good to hear from someone who had actually experienced drug use first hand. Other teachers received positive feedback from their students as well and the PTA heard only good comments from parents.... we look forward to having you come again during our annual S.A.D.D. week.
